Hybrid workflow

These are trials of my new hybrid workflow combining vectors and rasters in Manga Studio EX4 (inked over some old frames). I'd like to eventually modify this workflow for my commercial work. The WIP screenshot shows where I used which—purple for vectors and slate blue for rasters.

In the "old world" test, the brush pen in rasters mode renders hair so well, I couldn't resist using it on the foreground figure. And having just rediscovered Joseph Clement Coll, I kept his general approach in mind rendering the 3-piece suit. Both although would be inconsistent for a real illo.

In the "dog show" one, the ability to reduce the line width of the fence, drawn first in vectors, helps to enhance the illusion of depth and to reduce the distraction from the treat exchange.

Pen & ink - with vectors

Inspired by a comics-related podcast, I thought I'd have some fun and make up a tot with super powers catching up to and launching a bad guy into the sky like a hammer throw. This pen & ink was done using Manga Studio EX4 vectors and now see why these are so popular with professional inkers.
• Follow-up: Although a bit clinical, if I had read the excellent "Using Vectors in MS EX" chapter in the "MS for Dummies" book before starting this, I would bypassed some wheel-spinning..
